Notes on logging, without the math.

Practical notes on photo logging, the free plan, and building CalorieCounter. No diets, no shame, no jargon.

This is where the reasoning behind CalorieCounter gets written down. Most of it falls into three piles: how photo logging actually behaves, what the nutrition research does and does not support, and the decisions behind the app that are easier to defend in public than in a changelog.

Every post is written by , who built the app. Before writing software he spent years on clinical documentation, as a surgical scribe and practice manager in vascular medicine, and studied biological sciences and social ecology at UC Irvine. That is the background these posts are read through, and it is why a study gets reported with its sample size and its limits attached rather than as a headline.

Research posts link every claim to the paper or the agency that made it, and say plainly when the evidence is weak, observational, or too small to act on. Nothing here is medical advice; anything that touches a condition points you back to your own clinician. If a post turns out to be wrong, it gets corrected in place and the correction is noted rather than quietly swapped in.

Be first in line.

CalorieCounter is coming to the App Store for iPhone. Leave your email and you get the link the day it is live. One email, nothing else.
