04 — About
A calorie counter that respects your time.
CalorieCounter is made by ROID INC. for people who tried calorie tracking and stopped because logging took longer than eating. This page is what we believe, who Peel is, and where the app is right now.
What does CalorieCounter stand for?
Four things, in order: logging should be fast enough to do while standing up, estimates should admit what they do not know, the core of a food diary should be free permanently, and nothing you log should be sold, tracked, or used to sell you anything.
Fast
Logging a meal should take less time than eating it. One photo, a result in about four seconds, a saved entry in about twenty. The first meal is logged within minutes of installing, before any setup you did not ask for.
Honest
An estimate is an estimate. Every item shows how sure the app is, in three plain words, and every number can be changed in place. We do not publish an accuracy percentage, because one number would hide which meals are wrong.
Free where it matters
Barcode, search, quick add, custom foods, voice and text describe, history, and export are free forever. Premium pays for the expensive parts: more photo scans, second looks, weekly reports, recipes, Apple Health write, and long-range insights.
Private
No advertising SDK, no tracking prompt, no data sale. Photos lose their metadata on your phone, are kept 30 days, and never train a model. Analytics are opt-in. The privacy page says the rest in plain language.
Kind
Numbers without shame. There are no “cheat” days, no “bad” foods, and no loss animation when a streak ends. A day over target gets one sentence: tomorrow’s target is unchanged.
Who is Peel, the banana?
Peel is the mascot who lives inside the app and explains each screen in one plain sentence. Peel cheers when a day closes and points out the calories people forget, like the oil in a pan. Peel is a banana because a banana is 105 calories and everyone knows it.
Peel explains each screen in one plain sentence, cheers when a week lands within target, and never mentions an equation. Peel comes from the app icon, two bananas on a plate inside scan corners, and shows up in onboarding, on the Today screen, in empty states, and in the short films on this site. Peel stays out of error messages and health copy; those are kept plain.
Where do CalorieCounter’s nutrition numbers come from?
Photographed meals are estimated by Google Gemini, a vision model, run through our own servers. Packaged food comes from Open Food Facts and generic food from USDA FoodData Central. Barcodes and labels are exact. Photo estimates are estimates, and the app labels how sure it is.
Estimates for photographed meals come from a vision model, Google Gemini, run through our own servers, with per-item confidence and editable portions. Food data comes from USDA FoodData Central and © Open Food Facts contributors, plus your own foods. Every catalog row shows its source.
Is CalorieCounter available yet?
Not yet. CalorieCounter is coming to the App Store for iPhone, on iOS 26 or later, and the waitlist gets the link the day it goes live. There is no Android version and no web app. One email at launch, and nothing else, is the whole arrangement.
The waitlist gets the link the day it is live, and nothing else. Until then, the pages on this site describe the product as it is being built, without launch dates we cannot keep.
